Chrissy Teigen's Ham & Cheese Green Bean Casserole
I decided to kick off this up-coming holiday season with a series on all my favorite holiday sides! I make all these every. single. year. And they never get old, cause ya know, they’re delicious.
This recipe for Green Bean Casserole by Chrissy Teigen blows my mind every time I make it. It’s great to bring to parties or family gathering because it’s always a crowd favorite.
What makes this green bean casserole better than all the others, you ask? It’s better because this one has HAM in it. That’s right, HAM. Ugh, it’s so good that I have no problem eating it all on its own. It has just the right amount of cheese and onion strings in it that makes each bite flavorful and amazing. Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
Step One: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. and grab a 10x12 baking dish and butter evenly.
Step Two: Bring a medium sauce pan to a boil with either the water or chicken broth inside. Add the green beans and cook for about 5 to 6 minutes until tender-crisp. Note: This step is important! If they do not cook fully, you will have hard green beans in your casserole. Make sure they are tender-crisp!
Step Three: In a large mixing bowl, combine the half and half, mushroom soup, garlic powder, salt and pepper and whisk evenly. Stir in the green beans, ham, 2 cups of cheddar, onion and about ¾ of the fried onions.
Step Four: Pour the mixture into the buttered baking dish and sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar evenly on top. Bake until bubbly for about 40 minutes. Make sure to add the remaining ¼ cup of fried onions on top during the remaining 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Butter, for greasing the baking dish
4 cups low-sodium chicken broth or water
1 pound green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch lengths
1 (10.75-ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
¾ cup half and half
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
½ pound ham, diced
½ cup diced onion
2 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup canned French fried onions
